Amputee on Big Brother 2010

Was anyone tragic enough, like me, to watch the beginning of the last ever Big Brother last night?! If you did then you will have squirmed in your seat at the usual mix of fame-hungry wannabes, those crazy enough to expose themselves warts and all (and I mean that literally!) on TV!

Amongst the madness was Steve Gill, an ex-serviceman who is a double amputee with only one eye. But do his disabilities stop him, by heck they don’t! A father of eight and transatlantic yacht racer, he also visits soldiers back from the Iraq war in a bid to give them hope. I love positive his attitude; “I’m more of an I can bloke rather than an I can’t.”

Of course there will be a backlash of people claiming it is a travesty having someone with a disability on Big Brother as it has become a “freak show” – this year there actually is a circus theme. But lets face it, all the people in there are nutters of sorts, and no one will kick up a fuss about them being in the house, except I’m sure to state their hatred or love for these characters! Steve and others with disabilities must be treated in the same way as everyone else, be it as a nutter or not!

Watch Steve’s entrance into the Big Brother house on Channel 4’s website.
